The New School Art/Design + AI is an exhibition that celebrates the works of our community at the intersection of creativity and artificial intelligence.
Nov 27th 2023 - Jan 5th 2024
What is the role of the artist when the work is created with Artificial Intelligence (Al)? As society begins to perceive the works of machines as creative, we see art and culture converge through unprecedented channels.
AI’s ability to evolve through its foundational algorithms in response to fresh data inputs on the fly is often referred to as Liquid Networks. The fluidity of liquid networks draws parallels between how human brains adapt to new experiences, and how society handles new technological advancements. The potential for novel media to be a bridge to previously unexplored areas of our culture is immense and seemingly inevitable.
So, who will build these bridges, and what new tools will they use in their creative process from inception to completion? When AI is used, whether for designing buildings down to the bolts or generating musical scores, is it still just a tool? Throughout the exhibition, The New School’s emerging artists and designers employ machine-enabled techniques to provoke dialogue about artistic agency, systemic biases, the nature of time and reality, and the role of humans in the creative process.
